The Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation

Our goal is that no children should die from cancer, and that all should survive to a life without late effects

About the collaboration

"As a small private foundation with few employees, we rely on support from others, and this initiative by our ambassador, Pernille Teisbæk, is received with great gratitude. This collection will not only help raise necessary funds but also support the understanding of our cause. Our goal is that no children should die from cancer, and that all should survive to a life without late effects.” — Marianne Benzon, CEO for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation

Ambassador for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation, Pernille Teisbæk, and Wheat have created a limited edition collection of kids wear of which all profits go to the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation. The foundation supports children affected by cancer and their families, and is a leader in childhood cancer research - research which saves lives and sparks hope. Research of highest importance.

Entitled 'I Will Do Big Things', hope also has a central place in the collection. It ranges from size 2 to 8 years, and consists of t-shirts, sweat styles, denim styles, a pyjama, a beanie and a cap — all unisex and with an intended oversized fit. All materials are organic and t-shirts, sweat styles, pyjamas, beanie and cap are certified by Global Organic Textile Standard.

Cancer is the most frequent medical cause of death for children above 1 year old

About the foundation

The Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation is a private independant organisation working exclusively for children with cancer and their families. It focuses on three areas: family support, raising awareness, and research.

Childhood cancer

Childhood cancer is the most frequent medical cause of death for children above 1 year old. There are 12 different diagnoses, with app. 200 children diagnosed each year. Around 600 children receive treatment annually. The cause of most childhood cancers remains unknown. The survival rate is app. 85 %, with app. 5000 survivors.

Research achievements

The foundation is a frontrunner in childhood cancer research, and it is the single organization that has funded the most research projects within childhood cancer in Denmark. Between 2016 and 2022, 35 mio. euros was allocated to research.

The foundation has established 6 professorships dedicated to childhood cancer research and allocated 2.4 million euros for strategic research in brain tumors and immunotherapy.

Family support

The foundation offers services to support children with cancer and their families including psychological counseling, rehabilitation camps, and grants providing financial aid to families coping with the challenges of childhood cancer. The Beads of Courage program helps children who undergo cancer treatment with beads that each represent a milestone on their way towards recovery. Ambassadors help raise funds and arrange uplifting activities for the children and their families.

Ambassador Pernille Teisbæk

Before my father passed away, he gave me a ring with a smiley. The smiley is now a part of the inspiration behind the design as a small - but for me very important - detail.

Q&A with Pernille Teisbæk

Pernille Teisbæk is a stylist and creative consultant known worldwide for her classic Scandinavian style. In 2023 she became an ambassador for the Danish Childhood Cancer Foundation.

About the title 'I Will Do Big Things':

'I Will Do Big Things' is a statement that, for me, is primarily associated with something hopeful, and the message with this particular title is to spark hope amidst the challenge of going through illness.

About her role as ambassador:

If I can help make a difference for children affected by this relentless disease, I am very grateful. I lost my father to cancer when I was 7, and I don't wish for any family to go through the same.

I think it is particularly important to focus on cancer research, as it is the greatest hope we can give those affected by the illness.

About designing children's clothing for the first time:

I am a mother of four and always thought it could be fun to design clothes that my own children could wear. That it was possible, on top of that, to do a collaboration for a cause that is so close to my heart just made so much sense. Before my father passed away, he gave me a ring with a smiley. The smiley is now a part of the inspiration behind the design as a small - but for me, very important - detail.

The ideas behind the collection:

Comfort is key. Kids need to be able to move, play, and have fun. Hoodies and sweatpants are favorites among kids and easy to put on as well. Denim is durable and goes for so many occasions. I think it is important that clothes can be passed on, which is why the collection consists of unisex styles and timeless classics as well as colours that work well across seasons.
