MATERIALS

Organic Cotton: We use organic cotton in all our cotton products, the majority of which is GOTS-certified.

Organic Cotton Blends: To add stretch, some of our organic cotton fabrics are blended with synthetic or semi-synthetic fibers such as elastane and viscose.

Recycled Polyester and Nylon: Our polyester and nylon are made from verified recycled materials, primarily from plastic waste. The majority is GRS-certified.

Mulesing-Free Wool: Our wool comes from sheep that are not subjected to mulesing.

BIONIC-FINISH® ECO: Our technical outerwear and thermal clothing are treated with BIONIC-FINISH® ECO, a fluorine-free coating without added PFA/PFC.

Water-Borne Polyurethane: The water-repellent PU coating on our rainwear is water-borne and designed to reduce oil use and minimize VOC emissions during the drying process compared to conventional PU. Read more here.

Cottonseed Oil: We offer spring jackets coated with cottonseed oil, which provides natural water repellency.

Rubber: We prioritize using natural rubber and recycled TR rubber in our shoes.

Leather: We use leather and suede from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, a group of leather producers committed to responsible leather production.

Chemical Limits: We adhere to the chemical limits defined by GOTS, GRS and OEKO-TEX®. In addition, our suppliers are required to implement the AFFIRM restricted substances list and the ZDHC manufacturing restricted substances list.

Global Organic Textile Standard

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

Wheat is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 by the Danish Technological Institute, certificate numbers 1876-283, 2476-421R. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a label for textiles tested for harmful substances. It sets the benchmark for textile safety, from yarn to finished product. Every item bearing the STANDARD 100 label is certified as having passed safety tests for the presence of harmful substances.

Only the products which carry the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 label and claim are certified.

ENVIRONMENT

At Wheat’s headquarters, we have solar panels, waste sorting with a focus on recycling, initiatives to reduce plastic use, policies for organic procurement, and charging stations for electric vehicles. However, the majority of Wheat’s climate impact occurs in the supply chain, which we are currently mapping. This is where we have our greatest responsibility and potential for change.

Some environmental aspects in this chain are already addressed by our certifications, and in 2025 we began the process of becoming B Corp-certified to further strengthen our efforts. B Corp is an international certification and community of companies working to create value for the people and environments they affect – both directly and indirectly.

As part of this work, we are mapping our supply chain and collecting data on, among other things, environmental impact and social conditions across our scope. This will form the basis for a targeted climate action plan.

PEOPLE

As a company, we have a responsibility to ensure that our employees – and those in our value chain – work under safe, hygienic, and dignified conditions. We operate in accordance with national and international laws and guidelines on human rights.

LOCAL

We support our employees’ well-being and development through initiatives such as:

  • Flexible working hours
  • Personal coaching
  • Community-building activities, such as a running club and social gatherings
  • An on-site massage therapist
  • The Wheat Social Health Club, which brings together our efforts on physical safety, mental well-being, and workplace environment
  • Clear procedures for handling and addressing any complaints

GLOBAL
We screen our Tier 1 suppliers to assess whether they comply with international laws and due diligence practices regarding human rights, wages, and working conditions. All our suppliers commit to working in accordance with our  Code of Conduct and are audited against a social standard such as BSCISA8000 or WRAP. Social criteria are also incorporated into certifications such as GOTSGRS and RWS, within the processes and stages covered by each certification.

CHARITY

Children are at the heart of Wheat, and who doesn’t wish for a world where all children grow up with safety, health, love, and opportunities?

As a member of the Red Cross Club 100, Wheat’s founder Charlotte Galsgaard has organized fundraisers for, among others: war-affected people in Ukraine and refugees in Serbia.

Other causes Wheat has supported and continues to support include: .

GOVERNANCE

Wheat is a family-founded and partially family-owned company, established in 2002 by Charlotte and Peter Galsgaard, who remain active in management alongside CEO Thomas Frederiksen and others. Our leadership team combines extensive industry experience with a strong value-based foundation.

Ethics and Responsibility

We have a clear policy for responsible business conduct, covering areas such as anti-corruption, data security, and respect for human rights and labor rights in our global supply chain. Our decision-making processes are grounded in respect for people and the environment, transparency, and legal compliance.

ESG
As part of our journey toward B Corp-certification, we are systematically working with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). Our current focus is on mapping and collecting data in order to strengthen our strategic initiatives.

Transparency
We are working to strengthen our reporting and documentation so that our stakeholders – from customers to partners – can follow our progress. Our ambition is to develop into a role model for responsible leadership in the children’s apparel industry.

We are guided by:

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Wheat has fewer than 50 employees across Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The majority are women – including in leadership positions. Many are parents, contributing to a workplace that values respect and understanding for work-life balance.

Based on the most recent employee survey, our staff report a high level of well-being. We have a clearly defined process for handling and addressing any complaints or cases of poor well-being and discrimination, although this process has not yet needed to be used.

As part of creating job opportunities, we collaborate with  Gentofte Municipality on a reintegration program that helps long-term unemployed individuals return to work under flexible conditions.

Our goal is to maintain a work culture that benefits from diverse personalities and perspectives, where all employees are aware of and able to exercise their rights.
